About me

I am a senior journalism student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I’ve written for our student newspaper, The Sun Star, for the last three years. For much of that time, I’ve reported about the Board of Regents, Fairbanks’ Faculty Senate, and our student goverment. I’ve also covered relevant policy decisions in Juneau. I also like to write non-bureaucracy-related stories, but that’s not really relevant, here. This blog is for a journalism class on New Media, and I figured I might as well write what I know. Bureaucracy isn’t always interesting, but its important to know what’s happening, and it can be written well.

Although this blog revolves around the University of Alaska (and at times it seems like my life does), I have experience covering the news elsewhere. I’ve spent the last two summers covering everything from local politics to rogue animals in Skagway, Alaska. When I’m not in a newsroom or typing at a computer, I like to be outside or reading (newspapers, magazines, books) or laughing, or all three at once.

I graduate in May. I hope to continue writing in Alaska, at least for a while. Given the state of journalism, I don’t think I can be too picky about what I write about, but I’d prefer policy or features. Until then, I’ll be here.
